Norwich event joins in Global Day of Prayer

GDOP08PrayerWeb2009: Norwich and Norfolk will be participating in the fifth Global Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday, May 31, with a service of repentance and prayer in Norwich Cathedral at 6.30pm. The Bishop of Norwich will be present as will other leaders from different streams of the Christian community.

Administrator, Hilary Oliver, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for Christians from Norwich, Norfolk and beyond to come together as one body, uniting through a world prayer with our brothers and sisters from around the globe. How awesome to think of being part of a vast 24-hour wave of prayer starting as dawn breaks in New Zealand, flowing through Australasia, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas and finishing in Samoa.”

Jane Holloway, Director of Prayer at the World Prayer Centre in Birmingham and organiser of the UK Global Day of Prayer, said: “The vision of GDOP is to mobilise Christians around our world to pray from Ascension Day to Pentecost Sunday (10 days), unite with other believers on Pentecost Sunday (1 day) and to be people who share the good news with others in mission (90 days). In 2008, 214 nations took part and we pray that Christians from all 220 nations will be able to participate this year.”

Hilary said: “In this time of global shaking and concern for our nation, let us respond to this resounding call to prayer, in accordance with 2 Chronicles 7:14, a foundation scripture in the GDOP movement. In previous years the cathedral has been well filled – this year let’s see it bursting at the seams.”

The Norwich event is being organised by Prayer in the Park – for further information and to obtain leaflets about the event please contact the administrator Hilary Oliver: phone 07777 656689 or email: prayerinthepark@btinternet.com
