Science Meets Faith at Aylsham church

2018: Aylsham Parish Church will be hosting a series of lectures around the topic of science and faith on Wednesday nights throughout October, and there is no charge to attend.

The second annual Rev’d John Pumphrey Autumn Talks at Aylsham Parish Church - in partnership with the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at the University of Cambridge - will consist of three lectures exploring some of the biggest questions which arise from interdisciplinary research in Science and Theology: Where does God fit into the Big Bang theory? Are disasters ‘natural’? How do creation and evolution relate?

The talks will be delivered by three of the nation’s best thinkers on these issues:

“God and the Big Bang” by Rev’d Dr Rodney Holder, Emeritus Course Director of the Faraday institute at University of Cambridge; Wednesday October 10.

“Disasters and Faith” by Prof. Bob White FRS, Professor of Geophysics, Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge; Wednesday October 17.

“Creation and Evolution” by Prof. Keith Fox, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Southampton; Wednesday October 24.

These lectures are being held in memory of Rev’d John Pumphrey, a well-known and fondly remembered priest who served the town of Aylsham for many years.

The talks will take place at 7.30pm, on Wednesdays October 10, 17 and 24, at Aylsham Parish Church. Admission is free, and more information can be found at www.aylshamparishchurch.org.uk .

Revd Jack Branford, Curate of Aylsham Parish Church said:

“It is an incredible privilege to be able to welcome world-class speakers such as these to our town and our church in memory of Rev’d John Pumphrey. I have had the pleasure of hearing our guests speak in the past and I know we will be treated to three fascinating and stimulating evenings which will get to the very heart of some of the biggest questions of life, faith and science. We are sure Rev’d John would have been thrilled.”
