South Norfolk church hands out lunch packs

Members at Carleton Rode Baptist church in South Norfolk handed out 260 lunch packs as well as 50 family wellness packs during the school half-term break.

Steve Halstead from the chapel said: “One of our members, Ness Court, had the vision to supply free packed lunches to the community during the February school break.  Our chapel members got behind this, and a small team was formed to make it happen.

CarletonRodeLunchPacks480“We received sponsorship from local businesses, Morrisons, Innocent smoothies and Kettle crisps, as well as practical help from the community. Then over two days this week the chapel was open for anyone to come and collect a packed lunch for themselves or their children. There were also “wellness packs” prepared, to provide a little comfort and show love to hard pressed mums.

“The Lord blessed this project,” said Steven, “and over the two days 260 lunch packs were handed out as well as 50 wellness packs.

On the second day, people queued cheerfully in the rain (socially distanced of course) to receive their lunches, just grateful to be out of the house and engaging in some social interaction. Some children made cards of thanks too which were very touching.”
