Norwich foodbank marks a year under Covid-19
Norwich foodbank has just marked a full year of delivering emergency food parcels direct to people in need across the city to help them cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Monday March 30, 2020, Norwich foodbank decided to close all of its distribution centres in churches and community centres across the city because of the first strict Covid-19 lockdown and the order for people to stay at home – which included hundreds of its volunteers, many of who were in vulnerable categories.
Norwich foodbank Project Manager Hannah Worsley, said: “In the past 12 months we have completed 6,382 deliveries and fed 14,645 people.
“We have operated with around 100 volunteers – which is about half what we usually have, due to Covid-19 restrictions, shielding and the change in our operation.
“I want to say a huge thank you to our volunteers and to our donors and supporters who stepped up right from the start - when shops were running out of food and people weren't shopping in person. So many people changed to give us financial gifts instead of food and toiletries which was a huge help.”
