God is working in the waiting

Ruth Lilley has been spending more time reading God’s word each day, and has been encouraged as a result.

I find it amazing that the words that encourage me on a daily basis, encourage millions and millions of people all over the world. Our great big God uses His Word to touch the lives of such a vast number of people every second of every day.

I love it when God chooses to interrupt; when He prompts us in a certain direction. I feel it is one of the ways that He shows me how loved and cherished I am - to know that God’s hand is at work all around the world, yet He chooses to take time to speak to me.

Over the last couple of months one word has come up, time and time again: wait. I was seeking God’s direction for a particular part of my life and asked God to clearly show me His will. It was not the word I was hoping for, yet I have a feeling of such peace.

I haven’t heard an audible voice from God, although I have repeatedly heard His Voice through His Word. God already knew that I would be seeking His will and it is amazing to see how He weaves things together to touch my heart – a book given as a Christmas gift, a message sent by a co-worker. All these little details, God uses to affirm the word He has given me.

I do not know what I am waiting for; however, I do know that God is working in the waiting. Whilst I wait, He is strengthening me. I know that whatever it is I am waiting for, will be good because I know, without a doubt, that God is good.

As I wait upon God and His leading, I can just simply trust, because He has led me before. I know there is power in the waiting and that God will, if I allow, draw my heart closer to Him.

For me, last year was a bit wobbly, like it possibly was for many people, and I spent a lot of time going through the motions with God, rather than making Him a priority. My trust wavered in His goodness and promises, again maybe others felt like this because it was a very unusual year and at times really quite difficult and unknown.

This year, I determined that I would try to make spending time with God and reading His Word at the beginning of each day my priority. Had I not done this, I would not know His will and maybe have pushed ahead with my own agenda.

Waiting upon Jesus at the beginning of each day brings peace, strength, and hope, knowing that all I need to do is trust whilst I wait.

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (New KJV)
