Norwich politicians to debate climate change

Dr Fiona Haworth from St Peter Mancroft will be hosting a debate on how Norwich should adapt to the adverse effects of climate change.

The Norwich Society is organising the debate, which follows February’s report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on ‘Impacts, Adaption and Vulnerability’ and the January report of the UK Governments on 'UK Climate Change Risk Assessment’.

The four main political parties in Norwich will debate 'How Should Norwich Adapt to The Adverse Consequences of Climate Change?' in the run up to the May elections.

This live event is at the Forum from 3:30 to 5pm on Saturday April 23 and will be recorded. To be part of the debate, or to submit questions or receive a live recording, please visit thenorwichsociety.org.uk/events/special-events.

The speakers are Emma Hampton, Norwich City Councillor, Labour; Catherine Rowett, former MEP East England, Green; Caroline Ackroyd, Norwich City Councillor, Liberal Democrats; and Simon Jones, Norwich Conservative Federation Chair, Conservatives.

In the run up to the debate, a Climate Vigil is being held outside Mancroft, every Saturday from 1pm to 2pm. Whilst it is open to people of all faiths and none, and being supported by Friends of the Earth Norwich, it has been organised by Christians with a concern for the Climate crisis as a means of raising awareness of the severity of the challenge we all face.

Further information about the debate can be obtained from Laura Davey, the Norwich Society Coordinator, on  admin@thenorwichsociety.org.uk 07503 951195
