WymonhamAbbey750Abbey brings Christmas Magic to Wymondham

Visitors to Wymondham Abbey’s Christmas fair will be able to treat their children to a magic show and fun baking workshop while they browse more than 60 stalls.

They will also enjoy street food and mulled wine and listen to live music inside the Abbey on the open day, which is Saturday November 26.

“The Christmas Abbey Days Fair is always a popular event in Wymondham’s historic Abbey,” writes Julie Biggs, Director of ClearCompany, a non-profit community interest company which is supporting the event. “But this year’s is gearing up to be a big hit for all ages with activities for the children that allow parents to browse the variety of local crafts and produce, perfect for Christmas gifts.”

Entry is free to the Abbey fair, with live music from The Browns, Baroness and the Bear, and Anto Morra. There will be street food from Society Alive, serving authentic African cuisine, Khushee offering aromatic vegan and veggie curries, and Vida’s dishing up dirty burgers, hotdogs, and fries. Amor will be cooking up tasty warm waffles and Wymondham’s Craftily Bar will be on site providing a full licensed bar and mulled wine.

The children’s party, in the Abbey Hall on Church Street, will be 90 minutes of magic and fun.  Children can cut out gingerbread characters with Wymondham-based Baking for Wellbeing before the magic show begins.  While their creations bake, Mr Sam the Magic Man will entertain them with an action-packed magic show, and a balloon animal making session.  After the show, the gingerbread bakes will be ready for the decorating session.  Each child will leave with a magic wand pack, a balloon animal, their gingerbread bakes, and a recipe sheet to make more at home.   Tickets are £7 per child and mulled wine will be available for parents who accompany children.

Wymondham Abbey’s Fr Christopher Davies said: “We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to this wonderful event in the magnificent setting of Wymondham Abbey. There really will be something for all to enjoy!”

ClearCompany CIC has joined forces with the Abbey over the last two years to create community events that attract visitors of all ages, and a platform for the social enterprise’s non-profit groups to raise awareness of the services they offer.

Julie Briggs, ClearCompany Director, said: “We are thankful to the Abbey for giving us the opportunity to work alongside them.  These events work to everyone’s benefit in making connections between people and groups, and customers with local businesses. This year has been a difficult one for many people, and these events help us raise funds to support and nurture community projects in various sectors – mental health, refugee support, art therapy, youth work, eco awareness, and urban regeneration.

“The summer fair was joyful with stalls, family fun and music.  We are really looking forward to another fabulous community day and the infectious energy that the collaboration of artists, craftspeople, musicians, and visitors of all ages creates.”
