Gresham's School-Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday encounters at Holt school

To help mark the beginning of Lent, students and staff at Gresham’s School in Holt were offered 'Ashes to Go' last Wednesday as they went about their daily activities.

During the morning of Ash Wednesday, the school field, the walk to class, and the Sixth Form social space all suddenly became places of divine encounter. Members of the school community were invited to receive a cross of ashes and take the opportunity to stop for a brief moment of prayer and reflection in the middle of the daily busy-ness of school life.

The initiative proved to be very popular with lots of young people and teachers alike.

Earlier in the day, the school also marked Ash Wednesday with a special Chapel service in which the choir sang Allegri's Miserere and the Chaplain Rev Jack Branford reminded pupils in his sermon that they are made of 'star dust'.
