New electric van for Mid Norfolk Foodbank

The Mid Norfolk Foodbank has received a new much-needed electric vehicle thanks to a special Government fund.

The charity, which provided over 5000 emergency food parcels last year to local people, now has its own electric van, funded by the Government’s Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund which supports charities and community organisations at the frontline, dealing with the increase in the cost of living.

Suzanne Bushby, operations manager for the foodbank, said that volunteers had been using their own vehicles for more than a decade and the funding to provide the dedicated van had come just at the right time, and would make a huge difference to how they operate. She explained that the van would enable them to move increasing volumes of stock, donations and food parcels around the county, between their warehouse and the three distribution centres in Dereham, Swaffham and Fakenham.

The Mid Norfolk Foodbank has reported a 34pc increase in food parcels distributed in 2023, on top of a 52pc increase the previous year. The food bank is part of the Trussell Trust’s network of 1,400 foodbanks nationwide, which reported record levels of need in the last 12 months with almost three million emergency food parcels provided to people facing hardship between April 2022 and March 2023.

If you’d like to donate food or give financial support to Mid Norfolk Foodbank, please visit their website.

Right now, their needs include: Instant mash, UHT fruit juice, UHT milk, tinned tomatoes, tinned veg & meat, and jam. They currently have plenty of breakfast cereal, baked beans, pasta, pasta sauce and ladies' sanitary-ware. Please consider downloading the Bankthefood app to keep up to date with donation needs.
