Sheringham BeachLife family outreach returns

Plans are being finalized for this years BeachLife activity week on Sheringham clifftops and beach at the end of August, and the week promises to be enormous fun for the whole family. Tony Rothe reports.

BeachLife is organised by the churches in Sheringham, and has been running the free summer activity weeks since 2012, as well as indoor beach parties and activity days at other times of the year. The aim is to reach out to local children and young people, with four days of games, activities, and teaching, but many holidaymakers also come along to join in the fun.

BeachLife 23 trail 750ATEach day will start at 10.30am with the Beach Special at the clifftop marquee on The Leas. This will include challenges, drama, music, and even the gunge tank! The young people will then go off to their age-related “Going Deeper” groups to find out more about that day’s theme, which this year is based around Super-heroes

The Tuesday afternoon will comprise of a Treasure Trail around the town and sea front, followed by family activities on the beach in the evening.

Giant inflatables will fill the Leas on the Wednesday afternoon, and the junk boat challenge will also return to challenge the young people’s ingenuity and creativity. Everyone aged 8 or over will have the opportunity for swimming at the Reef pool in the evening.

The Alternative Olympics will take place at Sheringham High School on the Thursday afternoon, with the legendary “Sheropoly” youth trail around Sheringham, starting from Lighthouse Community Church, in the evening.

Families are invited to a picnic on The Leas on the Friday lunchtime, followed by the tide fight on the beach as the tide rises to see whose flag can withstand the waves the longest!

beachlifelogo 349 ARPete Skivington, organiser, said “This is a great opportunity for the churches in Sheringham to get together to provide an exciting fun-packed week for local families and young people, as well as the holidaymakers who come along and join in. In the midst of all the activities, we want the youngsters to engage with Jesus, and realise how He can transform their lives”

Sheringham BeachLife will run from Tuesday 27 August to Friday 30 August. Registration each day will be from 10.15am at the marquee on The Leas, NR26 8LG.
