Advent Angels set to land in Norfolk churches

Churches in the Aylsham area will be visited by Advent Angels during December, created by churches and schools in the district.

The Aylsham & District Team Ministry is set to launch its “Advent Calendar” event next month.  Throughout December, different churches will open the doors of their beautiful church porches to reveal an Advent Angel installation, each created by one of eighteen churches and two local schools.

Inspired by a similar idea first used in beach huts in Brighton, local schools, organisations, artists, and church families will be celebrating all God’s gifts as they work together to produce twenty thought-provoking installations in this inspirational season leading up to Christmas. They will be seeking to remind people of the true meaning of Advent and Christmas, as they take the opportunity to pause for thought and reflection in what is always a busy time.

Each church will be offering something different. There is a schedule of openings on the Aylsham church website, social media platforms and posters. Visitors can look forward to the delights of the festive season with mince pies, mulled wine, hot chocolate, carols and so much more. If you have ever wondered what you would look like as an angel, well come along and find out, as life-size silver angel wings, designed so that you can have your photo taken in front of them, will be doing the rounds. To make it really special why not dress for the occasion?

Team Rector, the Rev Canon Julie Boyd says: “Our porches are doorways and entrances to our church buildings and schools. As you follow the Advent Angels around the Aylsham & District Team Ministry this December you will be warmly welcomed and invited to discover more of the riches of the season as we get ready to welcome the Christ Child in our Christmas celebrations.”
