How to place eternity in the hearts of the young

Norfolk Gospel Partnership is hosting two events this month which will seek to equip parents and children, and youth volunteers and workers to place eternity in the hearts of the next generation.

Parenting the Hearts of the Children will take place at 7.30pm on Friday 20 January at CityGates Church (formerly Surrey Chapel) in Norwich. This training event will seek to equip parents to disciple children with the Good News of Jesus Christ, considering the Bible, the data, the theory and case studies, to ensure parents leave ready to love our children so that they live flourishing lives.  The evening will also include a meal.
Then at 10.00am on Saturday 21 January at St Helen’s Church, New Costessey, there will be a training morning for children and youth volunteers and workers.  The event aims for attendees to leave equipped and inspired to lead sessions for 4 to 18 year-olds. Both experienced leaders and new helpers (and everyone in between!) are welcome.
At both events the speaker will be Ed Drew, pictured above, Ministry Directory of the national organisation, Faith in Kids, which exists to see confident parents and thriving churches working together to raise children who trust in Jesus eternally. Ed is the author of Meals with Jesus, The Wonder of Easter and The Adventure of Christmas.  He is also the presenter of the Faith in Kids podcast.
Looking forward to these events, Ed said, “please don’t let guilt or tiredness stop you from coming.  I promise I’m not going to give you a long list of things to do. I want to inspire you.  I want to encourage you. I want parents to leave the Friday evening knowing that we are God’s plan A for children.”
“Then on Saturday I am going to be talking to those people (whatever their role) who help with children and young people in the local church.  We’re going to talk together about how we engage children and young people - how we get them talking, praying, thinking and living for Jesus. Because it takes both parents and the church working together to raise children who live life to the full, as Jesus promised.”
Commenting on the two events, Andy Rees, pastor of CityGates Church and co-chair of Norfolk Gospel Partnership said, “Three quarters of the UK church say they came to faith before their 18th Birthday. This area of the local church’s ministry as we support parents in their God-given role is critical.  I am delighted that Ed Drew will be bringing his wealth of expertise to Norfolk and I hope these two events will be a real blessing to the church in our county.”
More details, including how to book, for both events can be found at the Norfolk Gospel Partnership website.  Both events are open to all, whether or not their church is a member of the gospel partnership.
