North Norfolk conference on sexuality and faith

Christians from across Norfolk gathered at Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham to attend a one-day conference giving an insight into sexuality and faith, and to hear the experiences of those who have sought to reconcile both.

The morning was run by Living Out, a charity committed to helping people, churches and society talk about faith and sexuality. The speakers, Andy and Anne, shared their experiences as they came to terms with their identities and orientation whilst at the same time remaining true to their Christian faith.

The Living Out team is a group of ordinary church leaders from different backgrounds, who happen to experience same-sex attraction. Andy and Anne offered a positive biblical vision and practical steps forward for Christians seeking to show Christ-like love to everybody. They engaged with our culture, shared from the Bible, and told their stories.

The conference was attended by around 115 people, including leaders from at least 15 churches across the county, and it was felt that the event was insightful, informative and helped people understand the issues and challenges involved in supporting those who experience same-sex attraction to stay faithful to Jesus and flourish.

Ian Savory, senior leader at Lighthouse, said “With leaders coming together from a number of churches in the current climate, it felt like a real act of Christ-centred unity as we seek to serve all and remain true to our identity in Christ and His church.”
