Christian musician to lead and teach in E Anglia

Award-winning musician Roger Jones will be leading a Music Week in North Norfolk, as well as leading worship and speaking at events in Norfolk and North Suffolk this autumn.

‘Two Sisters and a Funeral’ is a Music Week led by Roger, which will take place at The Pleasaunce in Overstrand from Monday to Friday 23 to 27 October. Participants will enjoy a great week of teaching, music making, praise evenings and more. There will be free time to explore the glorious North Norfolk coast, and the week should be spiritually rich yet restful. In this particular music week, the group will be learning and playing together Roger’s musical ‘Two Sisters and a Funeral’.

Prior to the start of that week, Roger speaking and leading worship in the service at North Walsham Methodist Church on Sunday 22 October.

A local choir will be performing Roger’s musical ‘Saints Alive!’ in the evening of Saturday 28 October at Trinity Methodist Church in Lowestoft, and the following morning, Roger will lead worship in the Sunday service at Trinity Methodist.

Roger Jones was born in Birmingham and trained at the Birmingham School of Music. He then spent 16 years at Aston Manor School in Birmingham teaching music, and eventually became Head of Lower School. In the early 1970’s he began writing songs for his school choir about Easter, which emerged as a cantata entitled ‘Jerusalem Joy’ (1975).

In 2018 Roger was awarded the Mary Jones Prize by the Bible Society for his musical ‘Greater than Gold’ (1983) and its contribution to keeping the story of Welsh girl, Mary Jones, and her Bible alive worldwide. In 2019 Roger received the Cranmer Award for Worship from the Archbishop of Canterbury in recognition of many years using music to share the Gospel.
