Festival Pastors call for volunteers at Latitude

Volunteer Festival Pastors are wanted to help the Town Pastors group at this year's Latitude Festival in Suffolk in late July.

Since 2011, a team of Town Pastors, who operate in towns across Suffolk and Norfolk, have exchanged their bright yellow jackets for bright pink hi-viz to volunteer at Latitude as Festival Pastors. The ministry is growing - 2023 was our busiest year so far! For 2024 we are therefore looking to expand our team by having more Christian volunteers to support our day patrols. Communications Director, Rev Peter Livey explains.

What would you be doing?
As a volunteer you would be paired with a fully trained and experienced Town Pastor. Patrolling the site from 9am - 6pm daily, in mixed sex pairs for no more than 3 hours at a time. You would be helping to provide a positive, reassuring presence, being available to engage with people, listen, chat and offer support and help where you are needed and give out our renowned Freddo’s and Love Hearts. You may also get to spend time in the prayer marquee with our support team.

In our prayer space, as well as offering a safe place for visitors, we have Chaplaincy Lowestoft with us who support with activities in the front of house. They will have a menu for visitors to choose from, including prayer, glitter blessings, face painting, hand massages and will also have some live art creation. This was a great addition to our space at Latitude last year and we are excited they will be joining us again for 2024.

Latitude runs from Thursday July 25 to Sunday July 28. We would love for people to join us for some or indeed all the festival if available to do so. It is an excellent opportunity to serve and meet up with other Christians across East Anglia, and even see some of the acts performing! Camping onsite is available from Wednesday July 24 to Monday July 29, acts are free to attend outside of volunteering hours, and an optional daily meal ticket is available.

There is always a great atmosphere, the team enjoy fellowship and fun, and together make a real difference by being there and are really appreciated by Latitude organisers, Festival Republic.

How can you volunteer?
If you would like to support us and are over 18, a regular church goer with an appropriate referee and willing and able to cover lots of ground on patrol, please do get in touch with Clare Peverley in the first instance to register your interest at coordinator@felixstowetownpastors.org.uk . You would need to be willing to have a DBS check, and be able to attend our training day in Suffolk on Saturday June 29.

Latitude headliners this year include Kasabian, London Grammar, Keane, Duran Duran and many others, so a busy year in store with around 40k attendees expected. Artists and performers attending this year can be found at Latitude Festival | Line Up
